Magic by Mason

For all those who have been loyal clients and friends of Steven, I regret to inform you that on Friday, February 14th he fell ill and collapsed upon returning home from a medical appointment and had to be admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. Unfortunately the prognosis was not favorable, and on Thursday, February 20th after fighting valiantly, he was transferred to the Friendship Village hospice facility.

At 9:15pm on Monday, February 24th, he passed, with his mother, myself and his good friend Liz by his side.

If you would like to leave a message to his family, we welcome your voice below.

Thank you,
Tom Scott

    Dear Tom,
Words cannot express the sadness I feel for you and Steven’s Mother. I know that Steven loves you both to pieces.
Steven and I met when we worked at Lifetime Fitness together back in 2010ish. I saw him walking through Sola and convinced him to get a studio there. It was so good to work with him again.
Unfortunately, I did not see this post until this evening 2/23. Will there be another visitation scheduled? I would like to see him if possible.
Thank you for being a bright light in Steven’s life. If there is anything I can do to help, here is my cell 602-326-3252. Sincerely, Suzanne Corper

Tom and family, my heart breaks with this news. I first met him when I got carried away with my scissors and razor at home. I walked in for help with what i had done to myself. With a “bless your heart” from Steven, he immediately became my new hair stylist! I always looked forward to my appts with him. We were 2 ADHDers in a small room for 2 hrs every 6 wks. We laughed so much, discussed deep topics and reality tv. I wish we had spent time outside that room. I will never forget how he made me feel and what he has taught me. I know he has touched so many other people in a positive way too. I look forward to the day we meet again. Until then, he will be missed.

When visiting with Steven as a client, it was apparent during our conversations that Mom and Tom were the most important and loved persons in Steven’s life and gave him safe-harbor in our world. As you know, Steven was a kind, smart, talented, and caring man. He created joy amongst us and his enthusiasm was delightful. A couple of years ago, he made a solo trip to Portland, Maine and called to ask if I could join him for coffee. I’m so glad I made the 2.5 hour drive from NH to visit for a few hours. We enjoyed lunch at Eventide, and then wandered through the art galleries and dock area observing the old wood schooners that sail the sea. I shall cherish the good memories I hold of Steven. He is a beautiful soul. Our condolences to Steven’s Mom and Tom, and to family and friends of Steven – truly a kind friend and beautiful soul.

    To Tom, Mom, Liz,
I just heard the news. Mason was such an amazing man and person. He was a true friend to me. He always made me smile and laugh. He was so smart and strong. He was the most authentic person I know. Mason is always in my heart ❤️ ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ forever. My favorite memories will be deep conversations about life, going to the float spa, eating at pita jungle, the salon makeover, making silly videos, taking care of Kiki the cat, Mason dressing up and acting as a Titan at my high school reunion, watching RuPaul, and the day he colored by boyfriends beard a dark black! lol. I love you Mason forever. 🙏love Julie Seidel

Will you be having any celebration of life? Please let me know if I can help in anyway.

This breaks my heart 😢As a client, Steven completely transformed my experience – not just through skill, but through our deep, intimate conversations. He wasn’t just a hairstylist; he was a true counselor, a listener, and a friend. He cared deeply about people, about humanity, and his warmth and wisdom will be profoundly missed. Rest in peace, Steven 💜

  33. Jonathan Black

Hi Tom and Ellen and Family..
I’ve so wanted to see him again but I was getting sick and I wouldn’t want to give that to him. He had messaged me weeks ago before his passing and he sounded optimistic. That was him though. Always brought happiness and laughter. I met Steven around 2002. I’ll still remember that evening my friend and I went to see him and Tony (his ex). We right away clicked and became friends since then. Omg almost 23 years it would have been. When we got together we just giggled and laughed. That’s just how we were and the Navajo inside me ha. He knew how I was from day one. Brown and awesome haha. I’ll cherish every moment we had together. Many memories. Once he had a birthday where there was a limo rented and the doors accidently opened and his friend held on to him but he was more worried about his hair lol then him flying out the door. “ Myyyy haiir!!” Is all he said haha. Moments I’ll never forget. I’ll always remember him and love him.. My Dear Friend Steven…

  34. Laura Sue Ballard

Only knew this beautiful man from his Mothers timeline on Facebook. He was such a dear son to her and I found him precious and enduring… I’m so sorry I did not get to met him. Knowing his mom at an early age, I can see where he got his zest for life and such a lovable human being…

My heart is heavy for Ellen and all his friends and family who loved him so.

    Steven you will be missed!

    Ellen, Tom and Shawn;

I know Steven for a long time. I was his client and learned this devastating news only Monday. I was trying to reach him and he did not reply me like more than a week and I knew something was wrong since he never always replied to me even he was on vacation. Tom, I saw the note you put on his studio on Saturday March 1st and anxious to see him after he comes out of hospital but it never happened. He was such a nice person and cared about everyone. He was also firm to get the toxic people out of his life. I will miss him and pray to God to give you strenght. He will be always in my memories. RIP.

  40. Amy Kroeger

RIP dear friend! I loved Steven and knew him from my time in Scottsdale over 20 years ago. He was a friend and also a great stylist to me for many years. He used to come out to LA to see me and we would have the best time together. Then he did my hair before I moved to Germany and the last time I saw him was about a year after my first son Jake was born when I was visiting Arizona. I’m sorry I didn’t get to meet you Tom but I could see how in love he was with you. I can tell you were the great love of his life from his stories the last I saw him. Sending love to you and Steven’s family. Prayers and love to you all!

  41. Mellen, Zack and Greyson

I met Steven in Shreveport, LA nearly 25 yrs ago….We have lived together several times in several different states. I was his living mannequin while he attended Toni and Guy. My ‘Teven as I called him was an amazing human and 25 yrs was not nearly long enough. Tom, I’m very sorry to have never met you, you made his eyes shine with love and I know you know how lucky you are. Please accept my deepest condolences and hopefully you feel the love I send. Miss Ellen, you know what you meant to your “mini me”!! Much love and respect from our family to yours. Greyson (our son) was named that because Steven wanted to name his kid Grey. He said EY was the ONLY way to spell Grey, so that’s what I did….Everytime I yell G’s name I have memories of Steven……so I think about him alot because G is 14 and I yell his name alot!! I’ll always love you My ‘Teven…..Love Mellen Quade, Zack Wayman and Greyson Parker!!

P.S. If you ever have a moment I’d love any pictures you have of Steven from 24 yrs old on….I unfortunately lost mine in a fire….but just keep this request on the back burner!!

  42. Käthe Bouchier

    Ooooh, Steven 💔
We were tight for so long and then drifted as some friends do.
I met you at Brillare, a cosmetology school in Scottsdale at the Quarter. We taught together for two years and then we manager at a salon side by side in Carefree called Studio C. Next chapter was Carolynes’ salon at the promenade. Many years spent working shoulder to shoulder in different capacities. We leaned on each other, we learned about each other, we laughed at the absurdity of it all. Then you went to a salon suite and our connection thinned. I didn’t know that when you visited Kierland Salon Suites where I rent a chair, that it would be the last time I saw you, on January 28th 2025. You hid behind the doorframe and I was in the shampoo bowl with toner all over my clients head and my gloves! I wish wish wish that I had stopped what I was doing to hug you. I remember your words, you said “It’s so good to hear your voice and see your face!” You got to say goodbye…….. I did not

I’m so terribly sorry to hear this news. I’ve know Steven most of our life. I grew up with him and Shawn, who were like brothers to me. I love this family so dearly and pray you all find the strength to get through this tragedy. I’m sending much love to you all! The world will definitely not be the same without Steven in it. 💔💙

  44. Ellen Francis

My son, Steven, (Mason, as he was affectionately known), was a shining light in the lives of all who had the pleaseure of knowing him. His passing has left a profound void in the hearts of his family, his partner Tom, and his clients and friends. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but the for way it was lived and for the wonderful and memorable impact he had on the lives who had the pleasure of knowing him. Speaking as his Mom, I take comfort that I was there for his last breath on this earth, just as I was for his first. My life will never be the same, but I am so proud to be his Mom and I shall cling to our precious memories that we made together until I take my last breath. Thanks to everyone who has shared their experiences with Steven on this page. It means the world to read them over and over again.

    1. Dona

      Ellen,

As a client for over 10 years, It was easy to see how close you two were. He spoke about you all the time. He loved who you are, and how amazing your motherly love meant to him. He was a remarkable person, and you must be so very proud of him. Tom was also his strength, his light, and his love. As a mother myself, my heart breaks for you, and for all of us grieving. I will continue speak fondly of him, keep his memory alive, and find a cause to support in his name. Hugs!
